Electric strike locks consist of a powered latch and a faceplate. They’re locked when the latch is engaged, holding the door closed. Some strikes are fail safe, while others are fail secure. Some are even adjustable between the two modes. Depending on the mode of operation, the lock either requires the application of electrical power or the removal of electrical power to trigger and engage or disengage the latch.
In general, this type of lock is cost-effective, compact, and durable. Many installers choose to install strikes because they are small, simple, and easy to conceal. Their compact size means it’s relatively easy to achieve a neat aesthetic finish. Moreover, they are particularly useful when a manual handle is used to exit the door. The handle retracts the door snib, leaving the strike free to allow the door to open.
