About Credentials

The term credentials applies to any factor used to verify identity for the purposes of access control. A credential could be:

  • Something you have, such as a swipe card or keyring fob.
  • Something you know, such as a password or PIN code.
  • Something you are, such as your fingerprint or iris patterns.

CDVI’s range of credentials is wide. We have different formats, shapes, sizes, and levels of security technology. Every site and every project is different. As a result, there is never just one right answer for which credential is best.

When deciding on which credentials to utilise in your access control system, there are a range of factors to consider. The two main factors are security and convenience. Every building wants to ensure security. But highly secure premises are often very inconvenient. It might take a long time for individuals to authenticate their identity to gain access. If you’re running a busy office, college, or hospital, you don’t want valuable time to be lost waiting for an access control system. Each system must find its own balance between robust security and ease of use.
