What is the difference between ievo Revision 3 and Revision 4 fingerprint readers?

The Revision 3 (REV3) Interface Board was the first biometric control board from ievo, now part of CDVI. It was launched in 2010. The REV3 was specially designed for seamless integration into access control systems using a Wiegand connection. The ievo Revision 4 Interface Board is the next generation of the ievo product range, surpassing and building on the REV3 technology. Improving on system integration and offering a sleek modular design, ievo REV4 equipment is fully customisable and serviceable. The REV4 can be powered by either DC or PoE, and can be paired with custom RAL coloured readers.

What type of cable should I use for ievo fingerprint readers and how far can I extend them?

Revision 3 (REV3) Equipment REV3 ievo readers come supplied with two 3m cables: An 8-core screened alarm cable A 4-core screened USB / Belden cable. These can be extended up to an extra 2m (5m in total). Revision 4 (REV4) Equipment REV4 ievo equipment comes supplied with a single 5m CAT6 SFTP screened cable. The connection between the control board and reader head can be extended up to 90m providing the cable meets the below specification: Up to 50m – Cat5e/Cat6a SFTP Stranded-conductor, 26 AWG, with shielded RJ45 connectors Up to 90m – Cat5e/Cat6a SFTP Solid-conductor, 24 AWG with shielded RJ45 connectors. Note: Cat7 specification cable is too thick to use for connection to the ievo reader heads. Wiegand Wiegand cables can be extended up to a maximum of 25m when using high-quality cable (e.g. Belden 9534).

How much power does an ievo fingerprint reader require?

An ievo system can pull up to 1.6 Amps, depending on which version of equipment you are using, as well as whether you are using any additions. We recommend powering an ievo system with an independent 12V, 2A power supply. Note that you can power two ievo readers from each 12V/2A PSU. We do not recommend powering the ievo system with the same power supply as the access control system or any locks. If you are powering Revision 4 ievo readers using PoE, then you will require power from an AT or PoE+ switch.

What type of cable do I need to connect the fingerprint reader head to the Interface Board?

Every ievo fingerprint reader connects to the Interface Board via a bespoke PoE (Power over Ethernet) connection. The PoE connection carries both power and data. Therefore, high-quality shielded Ethernet cable should be used for this connection in order to prevent possible power and data loss. Every reader is provided with a 5-metre CAT6 SFTP (braid-shielded cable, foil-shielded pairs) Ethernet cable included as standard. If the supplied cable cannot be used for any reason, follow this specification: Up to 50m: CAT5e/CAT6a SFTP stranded-conductor, with shielded RJ45 connectors Up to 100m: CAT5e/CAT6a SFTP solid-conductor, with shielded RJ45 connectors NOTE: CAT7 specification cable is too thick for use with the ievo system due to the size limitation of the ievo ultimate™ fingerprint reader head.

Can ievo fingerprint readers be used as a standalone system?

Yes. ievo fingerprint readers can be attached to a Wiegand relay converter. This allows a single door to be unlocked with no events. You will still need an ievo Interface Board to run the system as a standalone solution.

Can the ievo fingerprint reader heads be used without the Interface Board?

No. The Interface Board provides the brains and the power for the reader head. The Interface Board should be installed on the secure side of the door, in order to keep the fingerprint template data contained on it secure. The reader head cannot be used on its own without an Interface Board. Each Interface Board can run up to two ievo fingerprint reader heads.

iface: How to set an admin password

What is an admin password? By default, the main menu of the iface reader can be accessed by any user. In practice, it is recommended that you assign one or more admin users who will manage the settings of the reader and handle the enrollment of new users. This provides a much greater level of security to the system, as only the individuals with the admin password can access the configuration menu. When an admin password is enabled, if any user attempts to open the main menu, they are presented with a keypad. Unless the correct PIN code is entered, the main menu will not open. Enabling the admin password In the main menu, press the Authentication icon. Then, select Admin password from the list. Then, you will see a toggle bar labelled Use admin password. If the toggle bar is to the left and grey, it means the admin password is disabled. To enable it, touch the toggle bar, which will move to the right and turn blue. Setting the admin password Underneath the toggle bar, press the Password item. This will bring up a keypad. Input your chosen admin code and then press OK to save it. That’s it! Now, once you exit the menu to return the reader to its standby mode, if anyone tries to open the menu, they must input the correct admin code first.

iface: How to delete a user in standalone mode

Deleting a user Enter the main menu on the iface interface and press the User icon. This will bring up the list of enrolled users. At the top of the screen, you will see User (X/20000) – this indicates how many of the 20,000 face templates are currently in use. To delete a user, press the Delete button in the bottom right of the screen. This will add a white selection circle to the left of each of the registered users’ names and ID numbers. If you press that circle, it will turn blue to indicate that the user is selected. You can now: Select one or more users one by one using the selection circles. You can scroll up and down the list using the arrows at the top and bottom of the visible list segment. Select all the users simultaneously by pressing the Select All button at the bottom of the screen. Search for a specific user by typing their name into the search bar. Once you have selected the user(s) that you wish to delete, press the Delete button in the bottom right again. Make sure you’re certain about your selection as users are instantly deleted once you press Delete for the second time, and they cannot be restored once deleted. NOTE: If you have multiple iface readers on your premises and they are working in standalone mode, you will need to delete the user on all of the relevant readers individually.

iface: How to enroll a face in standalone mode

Adding a user Enter the main menu on the iface interface and press the User icon. This will bring up the list of enrolled users. At the top of the screen, you will see User (X/20000) – this indicates how many of the 20,000 face templates are currently in use. To add a new user, click the + Enroll button in the bottom left of the screen. You will then see the enrollment screen. The ID field indicates which of the 20,000 face template slots this user occupies. Press the Name field to type in the user’s name, and press Done when finished. The Bypass Card tick box can be selected to allow a user to gain access by only scanning a physical card or tag credential, regardless of the authentication mode that is enabled. The user should stand between 40cm and 1m from the camera, face directly forwards, and position their face centrally on the screen. A percentage counter at the bottom of the screen will indicate how much of the enrollment is complete. On average, it takes approximately 5 seconds to complete the full enrollment. To successfully enroll a new user’s face, make sure the user does not: Position the face outside the camera range Stand sideways or at an angle Stand more than 2m away from the camera Wear a hat that obscures the face Wear a face mask or face covering Leave long hair obscuring the face If the enrollment has been unsuccessful, you will see a red triangle on the screen along with the message Capture Fail. If the enrollment has been successful, you will see a blue tick on the screen and the message Capture Completed. Once the enrollment screen appears again, press OK to save the enrolled face template. A box will pop up with the message Enroll success. That’s it! The user’s face has now been enrolled on the iface reader and will be recognised with access granted when the user’s face is detected. Multi-factor authentication (MFA) refers to a system that requires a user to present more than one credential in order to be authenticated. iface offers both single-factor and multi-factor authentication options. What are the options for authentication using iface? iface users can gain access using a range of different options: Face only – the user only needs to verify their face. Face or card – the user can either verify their face or scan a card. Face and PIN – the user must verify their face and then enter a PIN. Card and face – the user must scan a card and then verify their face. Card and PIN – the user must scan a card and then enter a PIN (no facial recognition is required). Bypass card – the user can scan a card to bypass all other required authentication in order to gain access. The order that the different factors appear in this list dictate the order that the must be presented to the reader – i.e. for face and pin, the user must first present their face and then input the correct PIN in order to gain entry.
